A blind boy sat on a street corner with a sign in his hand and a can by his feet which said: “I am blind. Please help.”
The can stood empty save a couple of coins in the bottom.
A man walked by and added some of his change to it with a satisfying jingle. He then gently took the sign from the boy, wrote on the back, and gave it back to him so that everyone could read the new message and walked on.
Soon the cup began to overflow. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign returned to assess the outcome.
The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”
The man said, “I wrote: ‘Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.’”
Both signs told passersby the same fact. The first focused solely on the boy’s unfortunate circumstance while the second focused on being grateful and helped others to see and appreciate their own sense of sight.
Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you! May your your cup overflow with blessings seen and unseen!
