Let’s head up the hill for apples!
The weather turned almost overnight here that signals the chance to wear sweaters and to find some Fall fun. One of Sacramento’s happy treasures lies on the granite shoulders of the Sierras in Camino just above Placerville. For those of us who grew up here, the cool autumn weather makes us think of Apple Hill with good old-fashioned apple bins, apple cider, apple pie (and just about anything else you can imagine made out of apples), craft fairs, places for kids to run, and beautiful vistas. Our family always goes for the caramel apples and to see the color in the trees!Take the time to drive or walk around and spend a little time enjoying the fresh air. It’s not just apples anymore so, I’ve included a guide and a map to help you plan your trip.
Apple Hill Farms also has an app that you can download to help you find everything you want while you’re there! If you’ve never been, you’re in for a treat. It’s a great place to go for kids of all ages! Weekdays and before 11am on Weekends are the best times to go to avoid traffic.
When we think of Fall, we also think of PUMPKINS!
Pickin’ pumpkins is a fun activity to do with kids. This isn’t the end-all-be-all list. If your favorite one isn’t listed, let me know!
Foothill and Delta Wineries
When you’re looking for more adult activities, there’s always wine! Fall commences the harvest season for the grapes! There’s the Placer Wine Trail up I-80 or check out the El Dorado County wineries off of I-50 or cruise the Sacramento Delta and check out the Clarksburg Wine Country. Even if you don’t imbibe, go for the brilliant scenery. This past weekend I went to a fabulous wedding in Napa at the Meadowood Winery and the grape leaves on the rolling hills of the Silverado Trail were just starting to turn. I found out that every Cabernet grape is picked within 2 days in Napa! Imagine that!
My sister-in-law, Tanya, and I had lots of fun…Cheers!
Whatever your interests, Sacramento and the surrounding areas beckon us OUTDOORS to enjoy. It’s a great place to call home.
Next week, I’m heading off to Buffalo, New York to see my oldest son and all the beautiful Fall Colors! I’m not a photographer, but I hope to bring back some snippets of the journey.
