Another Year Up Ahead!

The Odds and Ends for the New Year

This blog isn’t going to be focused just on Real Estate topics but there’s a market update in here if you scroll down.

Do you make resolutions?  As it turns out, we make them but only about 8% actually keep them! That would be me!  Some years are better than others. There’s the health ones:  lose weight and quit smoking.  There’s financial, enrichment, stress less, live more and a whole lot of ideas to make this year better than last year.  We’re a species that thrives on progress to a goal.  As I was writing this, I came upon a cool Pinterest Board that had some fun ideas.

Living Trust

Going through Open Enrollment for insurance options this year made me think about another type of “insurance” – maybe it’s best called an assurance to your beneficiaries.  I’m going to make a plug to get a Living Trust done (or updated) if you haven’t done one yet.  If you read the above Forbes link on SMART goals, think about making this one:  Get a Living Trust done by January 31st.

I used to procrastinate about getting a Living Trust done because when my kids were young, I didn’t have a lot of money and I couldn’t justify it costing several thousand dollars.  But fortunately, I found a less expensive option and I want to pass it along.  You need to have a Living Trust if you have minor kids because you need to name a guardian.  You need one if you have any assets that need to pass to a person of your choosing.  Look, I don’t know all the legal details, but I do know that you should have one so your heirs don’t have to suffer through probate.  Working in real estate, I met a local attorney whose story of  going through probate herself when she was widowed with small children made me really understand the consequences of not having one!

If you haven’t looked into it, please take the time to call and set up an appointment to meet with Diane Horton an attorney who is located in Roseville.  According to her website, you can get a Living Trust for under $700. She also does something called a Gun Trust!  So maybe if you have guns, you might want to talk to her about that too!

My Resolutions

Okay so here’s what I came up with for this year!

  1. Go to the gym 3 times a week minimum and run 3 miles/visit.
  2. Blog once per week:  sharing information about Real Estate, information that’s helpful, or events and places in/around Sacramento.
  3. Don’t touch my phone while driving so I’m complying with the new law.

My #1 Goal this year is to help 67 families with their real estate goals!  For every closed transaction, I’m making a $25 donation to the Placer County SPCA and a $25 donation to an organization called Hearts That Care because I feel very strongly about giving back to the community.

Real Estate Market Update

The Market is still unusually strong for this time of year.  I’m getting a number of calls from Buyers looking to buy as soon as they find a home that matches their criteria and I have Buyers who sold late this year who are still looking too.  If you’ve given any thought to selling, please call me for a complimentary professional opinion of value.  All indications are that with the lack of inventory, we’re still going to see prices increasing through 2017.

Need New Appliances?

I have the distinct advantage to meet some great people in real estate and I found out that JC Penney started carrying appliances recently and they are offering some great discounts and price matching.  If you go into the Roseville Galleria store and mention Jane Gray Real Estate, you can get an additional 5% discount (as per their Department Manager, Melissa Johnston).  She also wanted to let Investors know that they have good package deals for B2B (apartments, new developments, etc.). See flyers at bottom of post.  Thanks Melissa!

I hope you have a Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
